Man United ‘accelerating plans’ to fight Premier League rivals for Antonee Robinson

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign Fulham defender Antonee Robinson ahead of two of their Premier League rivals.

Robinson has established himself as a key part of the Fulham side following his arrival from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2020.

The full-back has gone on to make 157 competitive appearances for the Cottagers, helping the club win promotion in 2021-22 and achieve a top-half Premier League finish in 2022-23.

Robinson has also played a part in Fulham’s positive start to the current campaign, having chipped in with two assists and featured in every minute of the club’s opening six league games.

Having established himself as one of the top left-backs in the Premier League, Robinson is now being linked with a potential move away from Craven Cottage in 2025.

Man United and Liverpool have both been mooted as potential suitors for Robinson, while there is also thought to be interest from Fulham’s West London neighbours Chelsea.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Man United are planning to accelerate their pursuit of Robinson as they look to steal a march on their competitors.

However, the report claims that Man United may still have their work cut out with Liverpool and Chelsea weighing up whether to make an offer in 2025.

Fulham are also reluctant to part ways with the USA international and will seemingly do their utmost to fend off any potential offers.

The Cottagers are in a strong negotiating position, with the defender under contract until the summer of the 2028.

Why do Man United want to sign a new left-back?

The left side of Man United’s defence continues to be cause for concern due to the ongoing absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw mustered just 15 competitive appearances last term and has not featured in any of Man United’s nine matchday squads this season.

As for Malacia, he is still working his way back from a serious knee injury which saw him miss the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign.

With Shaw and Malacia on the sidelines, Erik ten Hag has been forced to use the right-footed Diogo Dalot on the left side of the backline.

While Dalot may be a short-term solution, Man United may view Robinson as someone who could make the left-back spot his own for the long term.
