Fear’ – Gary Neville addresses Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United

The Reds have endured a poor start to the new season and currently sit 14th in the Premier League. A win is needed today, or Ten Hag’s future will be looking very bleak during the October international break.

A defeat against Unai Emery’s high-flying Villa side will leave United with just two wins as they’d remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table. It’s the sort of form that warrants questioning, which is why fans are changing their opinion of the manager.

Neville believes the situation could ‘escalate out of control’ if things go wrong at Villa Park, where the scoreline is currently 0-0.

“Clubs do reassess during international breaks. Everyone recognised it felt like a monumental day last week,” Neville said on Sky Sports, as per the Mail.

“This Villa team know what they’re doing. A bit of fear in that United boardroom that the situation escalates out of control.

“It will be Ashworth, Berrada supported by Wilcox, then it will be Joel Glazer, Ratcliffe and Brailsford who will validate it. They want to get through this difficult time.

“They’ll want to try and make their own decision. If the result and performance is really bad today then it gets really difficult.”

Ten Hag was backed with new signings and a contract extension in the summer, but results have not picked up on the pitch. That is where the doubts stem from and the only way to bounce back is by winning football matches.
