United have had a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season, winning just two of the seven matches they have played in the Premier League so far, leaving them 14th in the table.

This has left Ten Hag under considerable pressure regarding his future as United manager, with some reports suggesting he has just two matches to save his job at the club.

And now, a top source has revealed that United have prepared a three-man shortlist of ideal managers to replace the Dutchman should they decide to part ways with him in the near future.

While speaking on mufcMPB YouTube channel, Christian Falk, Head of Sport for German outlet Bild, revealed that the shortlist had been drawn up and that United have already contacted one manager to enquire about his availability.

Falk said: “There was an assembly at United and they discussed a lot about the future and I heard that they are already making a shortlist of coaches that can be the successors.

“They have three candidates and one is a German again, Edin Terzic, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund.

“I heard that there has already been contact with his management and they’ve been looking at him since summer.

“They’re very impressed about the way he reached the Champions League final and played very well against Real Madrid.”

While Falk was adamant that the three-man shortlist had been drawn up, Terzic was the only name that he knew was included, but added that United have previously shown interest in Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß and the boss of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann.

However, he clarified that both men are not currently available, with Hoeneß adamant that he would stay with the German club and Nagelsmann committed to his role until the 2026 World Cup.

But, Falk did clarify that Nagelsmann in particular could be a future option for United due to his admiration of the club and potential desire to lead it at some pint in his career.

He added: “At the moment there’s no chance for United but I know he has a clear plan for his career and one step would be United so he’s really interested in your club.
