Their very worst possible showing”: Gary Neville reacts to Man United’s “absolutely disgusting performance” vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Gary Neville has branded Manchester United’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur as “absolutely disgusting” as the Reds suffered another big defeat.
United were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Ange Postecoglou’s men, who dominated from start to finish to ensure there were no doubts whatsoever about where the three points were heading.
Spurs’ goals were grabbed by the attacking trio of Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.
It could have been much worse for United but goalkeeper Andre Onana came up with a number of top saves to make sure the scoreline was not even more humiliating for Erik ten Hag and the team.
Speaking on Sky Sports (via Football365) after the final whistle, Neville insisted that numerous questions will be asked of Ten Hag this week.
The United legend said, “Brilliant from Tottenham, and we should talk about that first, because it shouldn’t be lost that we’d be saying pretty harsh words about Ange Postecoglou [and] Spurs if they were on the receiving end of this type of performance today.”
“They were outstanding. They played really good football from minute one, they settled into the game and they got really good goals at the right times, and their £60m man (Solanke) gets one as well. Van der Ven was special for that first goal.”
“But for Manchester United…the Manchester United fans boo the referee going off in that corner, but that’s only half the story.”
“The story today is that in that first half…you can’t say ‘from nowhere’, because Manchester United have been inconsistent all season, but they have chosen to put in the very worst performance, their very worst possible showing.”
Neville added, “It was an absolutely disgusting performance in that first half, in effort, quality, everything you want in a football team.”
“There are going to be a lot of questions to answer for that group and the manager in the next week.”
Despite Neville’s suggestion that Ten Hag will come under more scrutiny, the United boss told reporters that he is not at all worried about his position at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman stressed that he is on the same page with INEOS as promised things will eventually get better.
